Song Difficulties 2

Song Difficulties.

We had another difficulty when it came to putting our songs to our film. We ended up using a drumbeat to give a more tense approach to the hand on the door, this was also done to make everyone feel worried and to inform them that the hand was not meant to be there.

We then used our original Paramore decode cover idea, as the girls were getting ready. This portrayed the party mood as it is an upbeat song. We only used the first part of the song as it cuts off when Eva calls Cassie.

When it came to putting our song for our film title, it no longer fit the final piece and therefore we had to come up with another song. We decided to have Scarlet's death song carry on playing as the film title come up, I found it very effective as the song changes as the film title comes up this creates a more creepy feel to the film and it also builds up tension as the film progresses.

Song Changes

Song Changes

Our teacher has advised us to change our song for Scarlet's death as it dose not fit what we are trying to achieve, which is a sorrowful moment. however, the music is too up beat for the moment and so we have decided that we are no longer going to use the Lana Del Rey cove and change it to anther song that we have made on garage band. By composing a song on garage band, it shows our skill in making our own materials for our film. We are also able to produce a more sad and eery sound for the scene.

Target Audience Demographic

Target Audience Demographic.

Our film is a thriller, so our target audience is going to be people who enjoy watching thrillers. We have put each gender into a group to make sure we know our stuff and have done our research.

We have found out that the most popular age group to go to the cinema is aged from 16-24 years old, this is why we have chosen this age group to target our film at. By choosing this age group it would gain a lot of money as this age group go to the cinema so frequently. We are also targeting both genders, this will also gain money, as we will have a wider target audience.

Here we have split the two genders up into two groups, so that it is easier to analyse them as they have different reasons for watching the film.

The first group is girls aged from 16 to 24 years old. We have decide to target this age group because, they are most likely to go to parties, especially as they are in university or sixth form. They will also go to parties because they are young and they will want to go out and let their hair down, this is also a good way to meet a date.

The actresses in our film are aged 17, 18, 19 and 20 years old, so this target audience relates to the age of the actresses. By making the girls in our film young, we are hoping to achieve and more intriguing relationship between the audience and the actresses, as they around the same age.

We have also made our target audience wider by having each girl in the group have a different personality, we are hoping to get a wider range of young girls watching our film, because we want to make each girl in our film relate to some of the girls in the audience.

The second group we have is men aged from 16 to 24 years old. In general men are more intrigued by films that give them an adrenaline rush, this is normally achieved by watching action, horror and thriller films. They also like to watch films with girls in them because of sexual connotations. Our film is a thriller and has girls in it, this film will appeal to both men and women as it fits both of their needs and criteria. We have made our film to fit both men and women, because it gives us a wider target audience and this will make us more money.

Men may like to use this film as a first date or as a friendship group get together at the cinema. If men were to use this film as a date film, it would give him the perfect chance to comfort his scared date during the film, this might bring the couple closer together.

There is also a sexual nature within the film, this would appeal to men that are attracted to girls, and when people go to a parties, this is usually the time you would pick up a date and there are girls of all different natures. This could include some 'slutty' type girls and our film has a slutty natured girl as one of the main characters.

Character Biography

Character Biography

Chantelle plays a 20 year old woman, called Eva. Eva is the leader of the group of best friends in our film, this is because she is the oldest, so everyone in the group looks up to her. She is also the most sensible one as she is the oldest, this means that she thinks through carefully before acting and she also makes sure all of the other girls are in line.Eva is very mature, but she likes to let her hair down occasionally and have fun with her best friends as well.In our film we are trying to convey her personality through her bedroom and her outfit without spelling it out, this is because we are trying to reveal her character without literally pointing it out. Her room is plain with pops of colour and her outfit is also black with burnt orange shoes, this is the pop of colour with in her outfit.

Abigail plays a 19 year old woman, called Riley. Riley is the girlie-girl of the friendship group. Riley's favourite colour is pink and she likes to wear it often, she also likes to wear some make-up. Riley is the second oldest, this means that she is also mature, however she is not as mature as Eva this is because she is still a teenager and she is still finding the teen-life to be as interesting and fascinating as when she turned 18. Riley also likes to take risks as she thinks that it make your life more interesting. Riley is very protective over the two younger girls and she acts almost like an older sister to them. We are also trying to portray Riley's character through her outfit and bedroom, this is so we do not have to say her personality,we wanted it to do it that way because we only have two minutes for our opening and we wanted to convey her character in those two minutes.

Megan plays a 18 year old woman, called Scarlet. Scarlet is the Grudger of the group, this means she is into all of the Goth things, however she is not a Goth. Scarlet dies at the beginning of our film, so it is okay that she is a Grudge girl, because she is not one of our main characters. Scarlet is close to the other girls. We convey her personality through her bedroom and her dress that she was going to wear for the party before she is murdered.

Kimberley plays a 17 year old girl, called Cassie. Cassie is the youngest and she is the Slutty type out of the girls, this means she wears barely any clothes and she wears lots of make-up. As Cassie is the youngest out of the girls, this means that the other girls mother her a lot. However, they still treat her as if she is their age,(hence they allow her to drink and do whatever she pleases). Cassie loves leopard print, we see this through out her bedroom and outfit, as it appears everywhere.

The killer, is a psychopath that takes pleasure out of killing innocent young women. There is no reason that we know of to why he kills young women, however one of his unfortunate victims happen to be this group of young women. His choice of weapon is a knife, because it is a common household item, so it is easy to get hold of. It is also personal as he has to be in contact with the victim in order to kill them. He also likes to leave his victim where he kills them, which is usually in their homes, this makes the murder intrusive as he is breaking and entering and your home is meant to be your safe place not your grave. This shows that the killer is cold-blooded as he kills coldly and emotionlessly.

Mise-en-scene

Here in this short clip we are discussing the mise-en-scene of our film. I thought this would be a good idea to show us discussing the mise-en-scene because it was easier to talk about it and it shows everyones ideas and points, so we know how everyone feels about it . It also shows us how we are going to put it into our film, including everyone's points.

Animatics

Animatics

This is our animatics. I think that it was successful to fill and it shows how we are going to film our two minute opening. However, it would have been more successful it we managed to firstly film the scene for the length it will be in our film opening and secondly it the camera was more steady than it was.

Music

Music

For the opening song we have decided to have a cover of Decode, which was originally performed by a band called Paramore. This is quite an up-beat song, this shows a happy atmosphere, as this song is playing in the background while four girls are getting ready. This song is going to be played from two of the girls phones as you see them pressing play.

We had difficulty try to find the right music to bring the bright excited atmosphere as we had so many songs that we thought were suitable for this part of the film, but when it came down to choosing we chose this cover of Decode, mainly because we liked the cover and we liked the song. We also liked the original, however we are not allowed to include it because it will be classed as copyright, as it is protected by the copyright protection act.
Where as this cover is not protected by the copyright protection act so we are allowed to include it in our film opening.
This song was covered by a girl called MEMELii, we liked it because it sounds a lot like the original performer.
Link:      http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cgRPbiPauOo

For Scarlet's, death we have decided the have a piano cover of Young and Beautiful, it was originally preformed by Lana Del Rey, She was the original singer for the song.
We decided to just have a piano cover of the song, so we could have a range of different types of music.
This is a fairly light, soft song and it brings a emotional feel as we see that one of the girls have been murdered. Also having no lyric in this piece brings a peaceful feel to the situation as we want death to convey a sorrowful feel to the scene.
We found it hard to find a good song for this particular circumstances, because we wanted to set the mood and make everyone feel the sadness of this scene. This cover makes the scene feel more tense as well, as she has been murdered in her own room. In the very place where she is meant to feel secure and safe.
The other reason why we could not use the original song is because it is also protected by the copyright protection act.

We are going to to have a song going over our title to, firstly set up the rest of the film and secondly to bring more tension to the title and make the audience want to watch on. This song is going to be composed by Chantelle on garage band on the Imac. We decided to compose the theme song, because we want to have a range of songs, as we already have a sony with lyrics and a instrumental song and so we wanted to have a song that was composed by a member of the group. This song has a deep creepy feel to the title and it makes the audience get a sense of what is coming up in the film.

This is also called foreboding, with music, this song is not protected by the copyright protection act purely because we composed it.

Props Log

Props Log

The Props that we will using are:
  • Fake Blood
  • White Bed Sheets
  • A Knife
  • 4X Mobile Phones
  • Alarm clock
  • 3X Mirrors
  • 2X Mascara
We will need fake blood to show where Scarlet(Megan) has been stabbed, it will be all over her chest and on the bed sheets. We wanted to use a lot of blood because we want to show that she has been hurt deeply, so she will be bleeding a lot. We will also have the blood on the murder weapon, to show that it was used to kill her.

We are going to use white bed sheets, because we do not want to stain her actual bed sheets and using white bed sheets, will emphasise the redness of the blood and you can also see how much she has bleed. White is also a pure colour and it is also a holy colour, which shows that she is an innocent person and she did not deserve to die. this could also mean that she is going to heaven.

We are going to use a knife as the murder weapon. We see the killer holding the knife with blood all over the blade, this shows that it was used to kill her. We decided to use a knife as the murder weapon, because it is intrusive as you have to be up close to use a knife, where as with a gun you can use it from a distance. Using the knife as the murder weapon is also showing that it is personal as you have to up close to the victim in order to kill them.  Using the knife is also quieter and knives are a common household item, so anybody could have one, where as a gun you have to have a licence for, so it is not a discreet as a knife.

We will need four mobile phones because that is how we are going to communicate with each other.

We are also using an alarm clock as an alarm that will tell Eva (Chantelle) when to call Cassie (Kimberley) and the other girls.

We will have three mirrors, one for Scarlet, one for Riley (Abigail) and one for Cassie (Kimberley). Scarlet's mirror will have her dress hanging on it, Riley's mirror will be use to put her Mascara on and Cassie's mirror will also be used to put her mascara on.

We need two mascara, because you see Cassie and Riley putting their mascara on. This is also how we are going to link their scenes, at the beginning of the film.

Costume Ideas

Costume Ideas:

Megan who plays Scarlet, is wearing a white vest top, blue socks and black leggings. We have decided to put her in this costume because, this is what she will be dying in, and we did not want to stain her dress, so we did it so that we still see the dress, which is a black and white checkered dress hanging up, so we can see that she is in the mids of getting ready at the time of her death, this brings a sorrowful feel to the atmosphere.
Megan’s make-up will consist of a pale pink colour lipstick, and dark eye make-up, eyeliner and thick mascara. We decided for her to have this make-up, because we wanted to protray her character with out giving to much away. Megan’s character likes all of the gothic type things but she is not a goth, so her make-up is similar to a goth’s make-up, but it is not as exaggerated as the gothic make-up would be.

Chantelle who plays Eva, is wearing a black laced zip up dress, and burnt orange platforms. We decided to put her in this costume, because she is going to a party, and we decided to put her in a laced black dress, because she is the lead girl in the group, we see this because, she is the one that makes the first phone call and she has an alarm to let her know, when to call Cassie. She is also wearing platforms, because she is going to a party, so we did not want to put her in flat dolly shoes, this also makes her dramatically taller, which makes her stand out against the other girls.

Chantelle's make-up consist of smokey brown eye make-up, natural lip colour, lashes and thick mascara. She will be wearing this make-up, because it is quite a bold look and this portrays her leadership to the group and it emphasises her eyes, because she will be wearing thick lashes and mascara. Megan is a grunge girl so her make-up and costume fits with her personality.

Abigail who plays Riley, is wearing a cream with black polka dots on the top half and black bottom zip up dress and black sandals. We have decided to have her wear this costume, because she to is going to a party, this also portrays her girly personality because she is wearing a dress. This costume also portrays the sensible side to her, because the dress comes to her knees and she is wearing flat shoes.

Abigail's make-up will consist of natural foundation, eyeliner, fake lashes, thick mascara and pink lipstick. This make-up shows her girly personality, because it is so thick and bright, it also is not to much because, her foundation is her skin tone, compared to the average girly girl, that will have orange foundation. Having Abigail's character wear fake lashes and thick mascara, brings out her eyes, so you know by looking at her that she is a girly girl.

Kimberley who plays Cassie, is wearing a dress which is leopard print at the chest and black from the waist down, it is also short at the front and long at the back. She will also be wearing leopard print high heels. We decided to put her in this costume, because she has quite a slutty personality, I find that this costume portrays her personality well, because it is quite full on, and with the high heels it makes the outfit look more slutty in a way because they make her legs look longer. Also with Cassie wearing a dress with leopard print just on the chest area, brings more attention there, which must be her aim as she is going to a party, so this also portrays her slutty personality.

Kimberley's make-up will consist of blusher, natural foundation, eyeliner, thick mascara, red lip liner and bright red lipstick. This make-up is also portraying her personality again because her make-up is full on. With her wearing thick mascara, it brings out her eyes and she is wearing red lipstick, so that also brings out her lips, because red is such a bold slutty colour especially when it is used as lipstick. the red lip liner is going to bring out the shape of my lips and make them more sharp, in shape.

Daniel who will be playing the killer, is wearing a black hoodie, jeans and trainers. With the killer wearing a black hoodie, it shows the mystery of the killer, because we do not know who he is or why he has killed Megan's character. You can also tell that the killer is male, because he has not taken muck care into what he is wearing and he is wearing jeans and trainers, which are scruffy.
