Evaluation Portfolio 6

Evaluation Question 6:

What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?

One of the first things we learnt to do, was how to use the cameras. We learnt to how to use the zoom and how to find our clips we had just filmed, so we could watch it back and check whether it was okay to keep and use in our work or if we had to re-film.

I found this easy to pick up and felt comfortable filming. firstly we used our newly learnt skills to film our preliminary  task. As it was our first time actually filming and using the camera, it was not the best filming it the world, as we also was holding the cameras to film.

This is when we learnt to use the tripods, we used these to film our film opening. We learnt how to set the tripod at the right hight and how to attach the camera to it, and how to move it around to follow people. We did not have access to the tripods in our preliminary task, so we could not use it.

By using the tripods, found that our filming was much smoother and less shaky. We first used the tripod when we were filming our mise-en-scene task, as we had no one to hold the camera and we could not find anything to rest it on. This helped use become more comfortable using it before filming our final product.

Although we used the tripod when we were filming our opening, it was still a little bit jumpy, so we still need to perfect this.

We use the iMacs for our blog accounts, and to edit our film opening and to do our research before filming.

We used iMovie the upload our filming, this was fairly straight forward to use. Firstly we were shown how to use the program to upload our preliminary task, it was fairly easy to pick up the step of how to upload.

The we were shown how to export our filming from iMovie to final cut pro, this to was also fairly straight forward.

Once we imported it to final cut pro, we were shown how to cut and move our filming around, so we were more comfortable to use it when it came to editing our final product.

When we were editing our final film opening,  we taught ourselves how to get the wring up over our filming and how to use the effects the change from one scene to another and, we even learnt how to upload our institution clip from youtube and how to import songs from both garage band and youtube.

We use garage band for a song in our film opening, Megan and Chantelle, both used garage band to do this for our group. We did not use this in our preliminary task, because it was relevant to use.

Evaluation Question 5:

How did you attract/address your audience?

When we were choosing our music for our film opening, we were  looking for something that; firstly, set the party mood, something upbeat and has a catchy melody, secondly something that our target age group would listen to. Then we found a cover of Decode by a group called Paramore, this song ticked all of our boxes and it was a song that was in Twilight, which was made by Summit Entertainment, which is our institution. I also believe that having this song in our film opening it made our film complete, because it fits in with both the scene and the mood we are trying to recreate.
For the costumes, we decided to make them represent our character's personalities. We chose to do this because we only had two minutes to portray our characters and we want the audience to see as much of our characters as we could possibly show them, as this may want them to see more of the film.
The costumes may have attracted the audience, as each out fit is different, mine, Chantelle's and Abigail's are all from different shops and they all look completely different. This helped us show how different the girls are from each other how ever they are close friends.
Our locations were really simple as we used our bedrooms, this also made our settings easier and we did not have to change our bedrooms as our characters are similar to how our bedrooms already were. By using our bedrooms, it also made our mise-en-sen more believable, as they were our real bedrooms.

We also chose our bedrooms for our locations, because it is a common place for girls to get ready when they are going out for the night.

Here is some of the feed back we got for our final film opening.

As you can see we got some really good and constructive feed back, we would have had more, however, when we uploaded our final product it deleted itself, so we lost our first feed back comments.

I found this feed back helpful as some of the people that commented, they are also taking a media course, so they had a lot of helpful and constructed feed back for us.

Evaluation Question 4:

Who would be the audience for your media product?

Firstly, when we were planning and filming our film opening, our target audience we were aiming to attract to our film was the most common age group that goes to the cinema. We figured out that this age group was people aged from 16 to 24 years old, so we planned our ideas that would interest this age group.

We have also tried to aim our film at both genders, so we had to figure out what both genders like to watch and found that a thriller would be best. After deciding what genre of film we were going to create and what age group we were going to aim it at, we thought of our idea.

The people we were aiming to like our film were both boys and girls aged 16-24 for a many different reasons because every one like different types of things, which is why we also chose to have each girl as a different stereotype and made them the stand out of their age group but friends otherwise the film would not have work out as we wanted it to.

The reasons the audience would like this film are:

The first group is girls aged from 16 to 24 years old. We have decide to target this age group because, they are most likely to go to parties, especially as they are in university or sixth form. They will also go to parties because they are young and they will want to go out and let their hair down, this is also a good way to meet a date.

The actresses in our film are aged 17, 18, 19 and 20 years old, so this target audience relates to the age of the actresses. By making the girls in our film young, we are hoping to achieve and more intriguing relationship between the audience and the actresses, as they around the same age.

We have also made our target audience wider by having each girl in the group have a different personality, we are hoping to get a wider range of young girls watching our film, because we want to make each girl in our film relate to some of the girls in the audience.

The second group we have is men aged from 16 to 24 years old. In general men are more intrigued by films that give them an adrenaline rush, this is normally achieved by watching action, horror and thriller films. They also like to watch films with girls in them because of sexual connotations. Our film is a thriller and has girls in it, this film will appeal to both men and women as it fits both of their needs and criteria. We have made our film to fit both men and women, because it gives us a wider target audience and this will make us more money.

Men may like to use this film as a first date or as a friendship group get together at the cinema. If men were to use this film as a date film, it would give him the perfect chance to comfort his scared date during the film, this might bring the couple closer together.

There is also a sexual nature within the film, this would appeal to men that are attracted to girls, and when people go to a parties, this is usually the time you would pick up a date and there are girls of all different natures. This could include some 'slutty' type girls and our film has a slutty nature girl as one of the main characters.

Is this still the case?

When we uploaded our final film to our Facebook accounts, for feed back, we got lots of likes. these were mainly our friends, which are our age (16-17 years old give or take a few years), this is good because, this is the age group we were aiming to attract to our film opening.

We have also have likes and comments from people on the higher end of our target group, and older, that have also taken a liking to our film opening. This shows that when you target a certain audience, the odd couple of people also take a liking to it that are outside of the target group, who also like to watch this type of film.
